Sigma announces World’s first F1.8 constant aperture zoom lens.

Sigma has announced that they are launching the worlds first 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM lens which is exciting news for photographers who love low-light conditions.

The constant f/1.8 zoom lens is two whole stops faster than the f/2.8 lenses which are normally considered the fastest zooms. With Sigma claiming that the F1.8 lens is the first zoom lens to achieve a maximum aperture of F1.8 throughout the entire zoom range, it’s certainly a welcome addition to the market.

Mark Amir-Hamzeh, president of Sigma Corporation of America said “Exceptionally fast apertures were previously unavailable in zoom lenses, so photographers turned to several prime lenses in a session to get bright images at various focal lengths. We’re incredibly excited to be the first manufacturer to bring the F1.8 standard zoom to the market and to provide photographers with a new level of creativity and convenience, with the outstanding image quality at the core of the new Sigma Global Vision”

The 18-35mm lens is Sigma’s latest addition to their Art Line of lenses which forms part of their global vision products. The Global Vision lenses all feature a sleek new design complete with the manufacturing year stamped on the barrel. They are all categorised under 3 different groups (art, contemporary and sports). Each different group is designed to offer different features, for example the art group is aimed at delivering high-level, artistic expression through sophisticated and abundant expressive power.

As things stand Sigma haven’t released any further information on pricing and availability but we’ll keep you updated as soon as more information is revealed.
